36th Fajr Film Festival to review Georgian cinema

The 36th Fajr Int'l Film Festival announces lineup for a retrospective of Georgian cinema.

The 36th edition of the Fajr International Film Festival (FIff) has announced the lineup for a retrospective to be held for Georgian Cinema.

The program which is planned to review movies by Georgian filmmakers, will screen five films, including George Ovashvili’s 'Khibula' that depicts the final days of the first democratically elected President of Georgia, Zviad Gamsakhurdia.

After being deposed in a coup, the president flees to the mountains with a group of supporters confident that he will return to regain power.

Iranian actor Hossein Mahjoub portrays Gamsakhurdia in the movie that is based on a true story.

The other films in the lineup of the Georgian retrospective are 'Luka' by Giorgi Barabadze, 'House of Others' by Rusudan Glurjidze, 'Scary Mother' by Ana Urushadze and 'Dede' by Mariam Khatchvani.

According to the FIff website, the lineup will showcase interesting cultural aspects of Georgia to sheds light on untold tales and shares unique stories with the audience.

The festival has also planned to review Italian cinema during a special program this year.

Established in 1982, the FIff celebrates cultural exchange, displays creative achievements of highly acclaimed cineastes and pays tribute to local and international films.

Since its establishment, the Fajr International Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran and across the world every year.

Directed by Reza Mirkarimi, the 36th edition of the festival is slated for April 19-27, 2018, in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.
